How could I not review the Lelo Nea 2? This beautiful, ergonomic clitoral vibrator boasts a significantly strong motor and has one of the most stunning designs I’ve seen for a vibrator in a long time.
Just on appearance alone, it would make the perfect sensual gift for any occasion. Thankfully, though, the Lelo Nea 2 follows through on its promises and does deliver a truly powerful vibrator.
I was over the moon when Desires of the I.D. provided me with this vibrator in exchange for an honest review and I can’t wait to sing its praises to you.
This is probably one of my favourite compact clitoral vibrators on the market right now.
The Lelo Nea 2
The Lelo Nea 2 was launched alongside the Lelo Lily 2, which I also reviewed. What are the key differences? Well aside from the price difference (with the Nea 2 being cheaper) the Lelo Nea 2 lacks the silky smooth, scent-infused ABS plastic that covered the Lily 2. Instead it’s gone for a glossy ABS finish which feels firmer than the Lily 2’s smooth surface. Motor and shape-wise the two toys are near-identical and I’d be hard-pressed to report any major differences in motor-strength.
What I personally adore about the Lelo Nea 2 is its aesthetic qualities. My Nea 2 is Obsidian Black and comes with golden flowers on the back while the in-use side has a butterfly on the tip. This gives the Lelo Nea 2 an almost art nouveau element which makes it seem timelessly beautiful. The Deep Rose and Midnight Blue versions also sport their own unique designs. My second favourite would have to be the airy daffodil design of the Midnight Blue which is simply dreamy.
On a more practical note the ABS plastic that the Lelo Nea 2 is made out of feels firm and sturdy. It translates vibrations well and is phthalate-free, non-porous and completely body-safe. For those worried about fragrances (and, therefore, unable to get a Lily 2) the Nea 2 offers a viable alternative that shouldn’t be overlooked.
When it comes to the shape the Lelo Nea 2 is perfectly designed to fit comfortably in the palm of the hand and elsewhere. It does equally well when tucked up against the vulva as It does when inserted directly on the clitoris with the labia spread. The tip of the Nea 2 is also tapered, allowing users to choose between pin-point sensations (use the tip) or a broader, more dispersed style of masturbation (use the whole toy). I prefer the latter option but, I have to admit, the Nea 2 is very effective when it comes to the former.
Because the Nea 2 is so modestly sized it can also be used during couple’s play without being too obtrusive. This will certainly earn is some brownie points for some people.
The Lelo Nea 2 is completely submersible, making cleaning a breeze. It’s also USB rechargeable and a 2 hour charge time will get you up to 4 hours of play (or a 90 day standby period). There’s always something so rewarding about getting more playtime than charge time so I’m glad that Lelo has managed to create a very generous ratio with the Nea 2.
The Nea 2 also comes with a storage bag, some lubricant and a warranty card. As well as the storage bag, the box the Lelo Nea 2 comes in is nice, sturdy, and has a viewing-window on the front, making it even more suited as a luxury gift.
The Lelo Nea 2 has two buttons which control the intensity of the toy’s vibrations. By holding down the accelerator button you can also get to the Nea 2’s eight different patterns. I’m not a big fan of patterns so I can’t say too much for or against them, but the Nea 2’s patterns seem rather standard so they should please conventional pattern lovers.
The vibrations from the Lelo Nea 2 are very nice. They run the spectrum from a gentle purr to an assertive, deep growl and a final rumbling roar. The vibrations themselves are Lelo’s typical buzz-rumble combo. They get a bit buzzier on the higher settings or, rather, create more of a rapid rumble that feels like the rumbly equivalent of a high-speed buzzy vibe. Still the Lelo Nea 2’s vibrations have an impressive amount of depth and the toy can hold its own against clitoral greats such as the Lelo Siri 2 and the We-Vibe Touch.
One thing that I found very interesting about the Nea 2’s vibrations was the distinctive undertone that they produced. I don’t have an exact description for it, but underneath the rumble of the Nea 2 is a rapid flickering that really appeals to my clit. It reminds me of when you twang an elastic band: translate that noise and rapid quivering to vibrations and you get something similar to what the Nea 2 provides. I’ve always been a fan of toys that have nuances to their vibrations so this really appealed to me.
My orgasms with the Lelo Nea 2 have always been very strong. Depending on my mood they can take longer than, say, with a wand, but the climax is always incredibly rewarding. I like a broad approach to vibrations so I was happy with how well the Nea 2 sat on my vulva too. Orgasms with the Lelo Nea 2 had a variable duration but, in general, I felt like I could ride the wave of climax for as long as I comfortably wanted to.
It’s fair to say that all of my experiences with the Lelo Nea 2 have been positive but that doesn’t mean the toy is without some flaws.
Hard plastic, as I’ve mentioned before, isn’t for everyone and it’s not always for me. Sometimes I want a soft toy and, in those instances, the Lelo Nea 2 simply can’t fulfil my needs.
Feeding into the material is my biggest issue with the Lelo Nea 2: It’s buttons are incredibly hard to press. With a softer toy this would be a bit irksome but with the Lelo Nea 2 it’s a nuisance. Pressing my fingers hard onto the buttons of a hard plastic toy is just painful and, in the Nea 2’s instance, it isn’t always worth it. Don’t even get me started on when this toy is lubed up. It’s like a wrestling match with no winners.
Because of this I usually just set my Nea 2 to the mode I want it on and keep it there. However, this is not ideal for those who like to build up speed and it’s not ideal for those who don’t want to interrupt their activities to fiddle with some buttons. As such, a lack of intuitive controls are by far this toys biggest weakness.
Overall I am really pleased with the Lelo Nea 2 and think I prefer it over its fragranced counterpart. The beautiful design and formidable vibrations of this modestly sized toy just make me love it even more and it’ll probably be one of my travel companion on holidays.
If only the controls were more responsive, then this toy would be practically perfect in every way. However, as it stands, it’s important to know that the Nea 2 might be a bit fiddly before deciding to buy.
Still, I personally found this downside to be outweighed by the toys many good points. To me the Lelo Nea 2 is a winner and should definitely be considered during the holiday seasons.
