A Love Letter to Lube: Sliquid Swirl Flavoured Lubricants

It’s fair to say that Sliquid’s Swirl line has spoilt me. It’s also fair to say that I am completely fine with Sliquid’s lubes spoiling me, as long as I can keep on getting my hands on them. Against all logic, not many UK stores stock Sliquid lube. Thankfully Lovehoney and Amazon both sell Sliquid, so I’ve got my fix for the foreseeable future at least.

Anyway, I should probably talk about this lubricant.

Sliquid Swirl sets the bar high for flavoured lubes.

For me it doesn’t get much better than this when it comes to oral lubes. The Sliquid line is the crème de la crème, the pick of the litter, a lube worthy of receiving a love letter. Put simply I adore this lubricant, and here’s why.

The Sliquid Swirl Flavoured Lubricant line is free from DEA, gluten, glycerine, glycerol, parabens, PEG, propylene glycol, sorbitol, and sulphates. They’re hypoallergenic, non-staining, condom friendly, PH-optimized, and (to quote the bottle) “Formulated to last longer than most Hollywood marriages”. They’re also 100% vegan friendly and made with sensitive women in mind. That’s a whole list of benefits.

AND, to top it all off, they’re delicious.

I may not like every single flavour provided in this range, but I can appreciate the care that has gone into making each of these flavours a delectable delight. These lubricants are a bit stronger in terms of flavour than Lovehoney’s line of flavoured lubes, but they’re not overpowering. Instead you get a mouthful of deliciousness that keeps on going.

Each of these lubricants has a thin, but still gel-like, texture, and when they spread they retain some of their gel-like consistency. But, I don’t think this lubricant is suited for anal, or even for a rigorous toy session. While it could be used for vaginal penetration, I think it does best as an oral lubricant—which is, after all, is its primary purpose.

During oral play, the consistency of this lubricant means that it has a great amount of staying power. However, because it is thick it can sometimes get messy, so this is something to keep in mind (it could be a pro or a con depending on your personal preference).

While this lubricant is drying it does take on a clammy consistency, much like Lovehoney’s flavoured lubes, but, thankfully, I found that it doesn’t dry sticky, so you don’t have to worry about that.

As an oral lubricant, the consistency and staying power of Sliquid’s line make it a great candidate. So, once again, the deciding factor is the flavour. After all, if you don’t like any of the flavours Sliquid provides, then all the other benefits are going to seem pretty trivial.

However, if you do find yourself liking at least one of these flavours, then the overall quality of Sliquid is the icing on the cake.

With that in mind I tried five of the Sliquid Swirl lubes for this review: Blue Raspberry, Pina Colada, Strawberry Pomegranate, Green Apple, and Cherry Vanilla. Each bottle of Sliquid Swirl retails at about £7.99 for 125ml at Lovehoney. Alternatively you can get the Sliquid Intimate Selection Lubricants—which has 2x5ml sachets each of Sliquid’s Blue Raspberry, Green Apple, and Cherry Vanilla (in addition to also having samples of Sliquid’s H20, Sassy and Silver). This selection sells at £9.99 at Lovehoney and each sachet has just the right amount for a single session of oral play.

So, to help you figure out if you’d like these lubes or not, here is a description of each of the flavours I tested (as they taste to me), and my personal opinion on each of them:

Blue Raspberry- This has a semi-strong taste which is very similar to a blue slush puppy. It’s not the most subtle flavour in the line but it is still quite subtle. Rather sweet.

I love blue slush puppies, so I really liked this lube. However, I feel it wasn’t as flavourful as it could have been.

Pina Colada- The most subtle tasting lube out of this line, the Pina Colada lube has a gentle coconut taste with a pang of pineapple in the same mouthful. Both of these flavours can be detected at the same time, so neither is an aftertaste to the other, but they are both so subtle that it’s difficult to figure out where one flavour starts and the other ends. Not too sweet, so it may appeal to those who dislike sickly flavours.

I had high hopes for this lubricant but it was a bit too understated for me in comparison to some of the other lube in this line. Regardless I still appreciate the gentle coconut and pineapple blend, and use it on days where I don’t want to deal with too much flavour.

Strawberry Pomegranate- It’s hard to detect the pomegranate in this lubricant, so if you were getting it hoping for a strong pomegranate taste then you might be out of luck. Here we have another strawberry lube that doesn’t taste like laces. Instead, it tastes a lot like strawberry sherbet, or those hard powder strawberry lollies. The flavour is akin to the artificial strawberry flavouring used in sweets, but its sherbet twist makes for a refreshing change.

When I realized that this lube didn’t taste much like pomegranate I have to admit that I was disappointed. This was even more so the case when the artificial strawberry taste hit my mouth. However, the subtle sherbet taste means that even I (hater of strawberry flavouring) can enjoy this lube. It is very sweet though.

Green Apple- This flavour veered away from the sweet route and instead went full apple sours. It tastes just like apple sours or fizzy apple sweets. The taste is strong and distinct, as well as being long lasting and lip-smackingly delicious.

I’m biased. This is one of my favourite oral lubes ever (beaten only by a certain other Sliquid lube). It’s tangy and full-flavoured, but without being overwhelming. It embraces that tart flavour you can sometimes find in apples and goes the whole hog to make a vibrant flavour. Delicious.

Cherry Vanilla- One of the stronger lubes in this line and the sweetest. The vanilla really shines through with this lube, with the cherry complimenting it. They cherry flavour is not that of natural cherries. Instead it’s the same flavour as the cherries you might find in an expensive fizzy wine or on top of a cherry bakewell. In fact, the vanilla and cherry flavour in this lube come together to make it taste exactly like a cherry bakewell tart. If you like cherry bakewells then this lube is basically a cherry bakewell in lube form.

As for my personal experience, what can I say? It tastes like cherry bakewells! I went to town when this lube was applied. Every mouthful was like a sweet bakewell treat (but, I’m hoping, with less calories). Some have also said that they taste a hint of almond in the aftertaste of this lube, and I’m inclined to agree with them. This is my favourite flavoured lube yet. Not just from the Sliquid line, but in general.

And that’s all the Sliquid lubes I tried.

Each of these lubricants has a strong smell to them—you can basically smell them as soon as you open the bottle. This may appeal to some people and turn others off. But, quite frankly, you won’t find me complaining that my partner’s member smells like tangy apple sweets or a cherry bakewell tart. No sir.

The major deterrent for purchasing a bottle of Sliquid Swirl would be the price. They are a bit expensive for a lube. But, to be completely honest, the great flavours they provide, combined with all of the other benefits they have to offer, makes this line of lubricants well worth the price.
