Toy Review: The Bad Dragon Ridley Alien Dragon Dildo

The Alien franchise may be going through a bit of a hit-and-miss period right now (The game? Great. The movies? Not so much) but Bad Dragon’s Alien-inspired dragon-xenomorph hybrid dildo has gone from strength (with its initial gen 1 release) to strength (with the current version) making this geeky sex toy reviewer one very happy nerd indeed.

I say this with confidence, too, having owned the original Xenogon dildo back when Bad Dragon had art and I spent an intensely long period learning about myself through some of their *ahem* creative product descriptions.

I liked the original Xenogon quite a bit, but I had problems with it. For one, its shaft was very slender when compared to its bulky knot. This meant that if you wanted any sense of initial girth you had to go for a larger size. But then, the ultimate sorrow: the toy would then typically be too long to be able to effectively take the knot before the toy’s tip made contact with the cervix (a form of alien contact that I most certainly did not desire in any form). Like the original Prometheus, this was an intriguing but ultimately rather disappointing aspect of the toy.

But no more! Like the adaptive and customer-driven company they are, Bad Dragon responded to these issues, and the Ridley is now the Alien 2 of their roster: All action, all the time.

The Bad Dragon Ridley Alien Dragon Dildo

Like most Bad Dragon toys, Ridley can be customized in an extensive variety of ways, which, aside from the obvious fantasy-draw, is one of the biggest appeals of ordering a Bad Dragon product. A toy that was made specifically to your every desire? Uhm, yes please!

The Ridley is an improved version of the old model.

The specific aspects of your product will change its price, but Bad Dragon are incredibly transparent about this and the customization options are easy to access any play around with. A real size tool even allows you to see just what you’ll be ordering. I ordered the Ridley in small with signature colour (complete with glitter) and in firm. As a fun little test, I put up the real size tool and held my Ridley to it and, yeah, it was precisely correct. But let’s get on to the toy itself, shall we?

The Ridley still has a rather narrow shaft initially – with a probing, almost noticeably eager head – but the distance between this narrow section and the knot is now nowhere near as long. This meant that I was easily able to access my small toy’s knot, which was one of the primary criteria I was looking for in this product change, so huge success there.

I picked the ‘firm’ option for this dildo for a specific reason, too: One of the signature elements of the Ridley dildo is that it is textured to an extreme degree. No exaggeration. On this toy you have ridges, ripples, lines, bumps, wires, swirls, indentations, divots…pretty much everything you’d want except for veins. The head itself is wonderfully textured with scale-like raised sections, which know just how to locate and caress the G-Spot with all the persistence and bad-assery of Ripley with a flamethrower.

This is a potent part of this product’s design.

The rest of the texture does a wonderful job at complementing this during use too, and is especially effective when being thrusted or slowly pulled in and out of any opening that you wish. The flared base of the Ridley makes it anal-friendly and harness compatible (though some harnesses struggle with the chunky bases of Bad Dragon toys. The knot of this toy can make finding the right O-Ring a bit awkward at times, but it’s worth the extra adjustment when it comes to the Ridley.

I wish I could say that the bumps lining the sides of the Ridley’s were a huge game changer for this toy but, sadly, they were perhaps one of the elements I felt the least – with the strongest sensation coming from this toys ridges and the smaller bumps on its shaft. Really, though, I’d just like to gush forever over this toy’s head, because the orgasms it gave me were (to indulge in a cliché to the max) out of this world.

The signature color of the Ridley is gorgeous and, like many of the signature Bad Dragon designs, I notice something new about it every time I glance at my dildo. In this way it’s almost hypnotic and, were it not for how great it feels inside of me, I could spend hours staring at it, mesmerized.

The details of this toy are brilliant.

My only major gripe with the Ridley was that, to my frustration, the firm just wasn’t firm enough for me. I can still bend this toy with ease. I can fold its top shaft section in half with no issues, and it is currently wiggling enthusiastically on my desk as I type this review.

For me this is a problem because I want more of the Ridley. I want more of its texture, more of its detailed and intricate artistry rubbing my insides, and that’s currently not happening with the firm firmness, which is supposed to be the hardest, and thus most noticeably textured, of all the options.

This can be variable: The individual pouring of each toy means that there are some variations, even when using the same silicone reliably, but moving forward I do hope that Bad Dragon at least release an extra-firm version for the Ridley, for us complete and utter texture sluts. As it stands the Tantus Bound is currently winning over the Ridley for giving me texture-based enjoyment, and that’s because the Bound is firmer by far than this toy.

Final Thoughts

Despite this personal gripe, I still consider the Ridley to be a massive improvement over the original version, and I’m a big fan of both.

The new Ridley takes everything that was great about the original and streamlines it, making it an apex predator when it comes to giving me killer orgasms.

This Bad Dragon offering would be great for anyone wanting to start out with a slimmer shaft which then grows out in to a manageable knot. It would not suit anyone wanting to chunk up from the get-go and it’s certainly not for you if you dislike all kinds of texture.

Those who are interested in exploring texture but are unsure would do well to go with the Ridley for a first time toy. Not only is its slimmer shaft a more forgiving way to start probing texture-based sensations, but the fact that you can select its firmness means that you can work fully within your comfort zone. I think most should be able to handle the medium as a starting point though.

As for the long-term prospects of my Ridley: This is a toy that I’ll be happily revisiting from time-to-time. I always have a soft spot for Bad Dragon toys and the unique approach they take to each dildo means that I usually end up craving their very specific shape.

The Ridley is a toy I can easily recommend and I commend Bad Dragon for its improvements.
