For this review, I feel obligated to give a trigger warning for vaginal trauma right off the bat because, when I came out of my mother, I did some serious damage.
Not the vaginal tear kind (though I’m sure that was involved). More the ‘When I emerged I tried to take my mother’s insides with me’ kind of damage.
It’s the type that has involved a hysterectomy, at least six different surgeries over the years, and enough damage to the vagina and vulva that my mother insists her doctor has told her she can no longer feel sexual pleasure at all. I have my own thoughts on that last remark, but I’d never devalue my mother’s experiences (especially given that I’m the source of her discomfort).
I’ll always remember the moment that my mother was made privy to why her multiple surgeries had occurred. Out of hospital for the umpteenth time in so many years, drugged up on pills, and bed-ridden she spacily said to me:
‘The surgeon told me that the damage done looked like the result of complications during pregnancy. So really all of this…is because of you’.
It was said in an airy manner, and it’s something we both laugh about, but it is also wholly true.
Call me Emmeline: Destroyer of Wombs.
And with so many surgeries in that area comes urinary incontinence, the inability to even feel one’s kegel muscles (let alone exercise them), and a general vaginal and urinary distress that seems like it will never recover.
And it is for this reason that I requested the Kegel8 Ultra 20 Electronic Pelvic Toner.
The Kegel8 Ultra 20 Electronic Pelvic Toner
Credit where credit is due—Kegel8 were incredibly understanding when I explained that I wanted a tester product for my mother. My mum is not a reviewer, nor is she a prolific writer, but she is the ideal candidate for a Kegel8. Riddled with surgery scars and liable to pee with a particularly strong sneeze (and totally okay with me disclosing this, just so y’all know) she it just the type of person that would benefit most from a Kegel8 device.
And Kegel8 pride themselves on catering to their customer’s needs, so when I explained my mother’s history they didn’t hesitate to recommend what they felt was the best product for the job.
That product happened to be the Kegel8 Ultra 20 Electronic Pelvic Toner.
The Kegel8 Ultra 20 Electronic Pelvic Toner arrived in extremely good time and was very discreetly packaged—which, I think, is very important when any adult product is involved but especially important with products such as the Kegel8. Users of such items may be very nervous or experiencing a lot of shame, after all, so any steps that Kegel8 can make to improve this is highly appreciated.
The Kegel8 Ultra 20 Electronic Pelvic Toner itself comes in a brilliant, sturdy, and inconspicuous storage case, which keeps everything together and makes sure that prying eyes are unable to guess its contents. Everything you need is provided to you, including the Kegel8 Ultra 20 Electronic Pelvic Toner controller, a nickel-free Glide Gold probe, and some electrode pads, if you wish to use pad treatment alongside a probe-based treatment.
The treatment you choose ultimately depends on what you’re suffering from, as Kegel8 recommends different exercises for different conditions. In my mother’s case the pads were an optional part of her treatment and one that she ultimately chose to omit, due to its similarity to TENS machines (which the Kegel8 Ultra 20 Electronic Pelvic Toner are very similar to in many regards).
Thankfully the Kegel8 Ultra 20 Electronic Pelvic Toner comes with its own manual which walks you through each exercise setting and the recommended regimen (and duration) for various conditions. As its name suggests, the Kegel8 Ultra 20 Electronic Pelvic Toner has 20 different exercise programmes included and they’re all incredibly easy to get to via the straightforward control system.
Turning on the Kegel8 Ultra 20 Electronic Pelvic Toner, switching settings, and adjusting intensity is all very straightforward (after an initial learning period) and there is an entire spectrum of sensations included in each setting.
To summarize my mother, they vary from ‘Is it on?’, to ‘Oh yeah, I can feel that now’, to ‘I’ve got up a bit. I’m doing pretty good’, to the eventual ‘No, that’s too much for me’ and adjustments can be made at all stages.
What my mother found (and what I found with my own Kegel8) is that gradually you get used to its tingling, contracting, and slight jolting sensations and start building up the intensity in a gradual and reassuring manner. This gives a huge sense of achievement every time and always feels like a natural progression, while still strengthening the Kegel muscles through its electro-induced muscle contractions.
There is no point, nor reason as to why the Kegel8 Ultra 20 Electronic Pelvic Toner should feel uncomfortable and, in fact, its comfort turned out to be invaluable for my mother. The probe included with the Kegel8 Ultra 20 Electronic Pelvic Toner is an absolute beaut of a device. Slim, contoured to the body, and shamelessly attractive in appearance, the Kegel8 Ultra 20 Electronic Pelvic Toner’s probe easily slides in to my mother’s body where all other devices have failed.
This was revolutionary for my mother. She has tried so many kegel beads in the past and even the slimmest ones have been ill-suited to her body, due to their shape and size. But she had absolutely no problem with the Kegel8 Ultra 20 Electronic Pelvic Toner’s probe, and this meant that she felt immediately at ease when using this device. Having a 2 year warranty on a £149.99 product also comes with its own reassurances, especially if you doubt it will work for you.
My mother diligently kept up her kegel routine for just over 2 months and at first she was very doubtful. Having never been on a successful kegel regimen in her life, progress was slow-going for her, and she had no idea what changes to look for. But, slowly but surely, she has seen results and she is highly optimistic for the future.
Where before a sneeze would have caused a leak, she is able to contain herself. Where she’s usually make a mad dash to a needed nearby loo, she now does more of a controlled stride, and where she used to cringe in pain when faced with a long car trip, she is now able to manage her bladder and its expectations.
This, for my mother, has been the main difference, as she hasn’t really tested her sexual prowess since using the Kegel8 Ultra 20 Electronic Pelvic Toner, but that’s a totally different issue altogether.
In terms of downsides it’s still a shame that the Kegel8 Ultra 20 Electronic Pelvic Toner isn’t waterproof. But I understand that water and electricity don’t mix.
While you do get a free sachet of lubricant with the Kegel8 Ultra 20 Electronic Pelvic Toner, it’s also important to know that you will need a good bottle of water-based lube (and replacement batteries) while working with the Kegel8 Ultra 20 Electronic Pelvic Toner (which, after all, is a lifelong commitment to vaginal health).
My mother, being dyslexic, also struggled with the instructions at first, but benefitted heavily from a little demonstration. Because of this I’m willing to say that those who have fully literate friends shouldn’t have too many issues, but this is something to consider if you also struggle with a learning difficulty.
My own experiences with a Kegel8 have been incredibly affirming, but seeing my mother benefit from what Kegel8 has to offer has been an entirely different experience and is one that has filled me with joy.
I got better sex and improved bladder control from my Kegel8 but my mother, she got her life back, in so many ways.
Progress is still slow going for her, but she loves the comfort and ease of the Kegel8 Ultra 20 Electronic Pelvic Toner, would highly recommend it, and shows no sign of stopping any time soon.
