When another adult product reviewer approaches me with a toy recommendation it piques my interest.
Booty toys are prevalently the domain of Mr Peaches so I was happy that he was also keen to try out this remote controlled plug, primarily due to that particular feature.
Both engaged for different reasons, we embarked upon our b-Vibe Novice Plug testing with a fair amount of anticipation and excitement already built up. But what was the release like? Read on to find out.
b-Vibe is founded by Alicia Sinclair which, in itself, speaks volumes.
Alicia Sinclair is a certified in sexology and clinical and coaching skills and has spent more than 15 years working in fields involving sexual intimacy. She leads training programmes, is an instructor of ‘Sex Toys in Todays Market’ at Sex Coach University, and has even worked with the FBI (I could tell you in what capacity but that’s classified…nah, just kidding, click here to find out more about this awesome individual).
b-Vibe reflects the diligence and sexual engagement of its founder—striving to provide premium, certified, body-safe anal sex products for anyone’s enjoyment. It achieves a sex positive and fun approach by letting the toys speak for them in a shame-free and open manner.
I have to say, everything about b-Vibe seems light, approachable, and engaging. My b-Vibe Novice Plug arrived in good time (but sadly with some customs) and was incredibly well packaged. Customer service was smooth and communication friendly, reassuring me that b-Vibe is a brand that stands by the ethos of its founder.
The b-Vibe Novice Plug
The b-Vibe Novice Plug is b-Vibe’s designated ‘beginner-friendly’ butt plug—not exclusive to beginners or exclusively for beginners, but friendly for such use (god I love that terminology).
When anal toys are involved, it’s size and shape which predominantly determines how accessible and amicable the end product is. The b-Vibe Novice Plug is 3.5 x 1 inches, which both looks and feels incredibly forgiving. Anal sex always requires an ample amount of lubricant (lube is a must!) but the b-Vibe Novice Plug isn’t the type of toy that you look at and then begin slathering lube over with a daunted gulp. It’s much kinder in its measurements and this is reinforced through its design.
Small and rounded at the tip and then made to taper out to a larger lower section, the b-Vibe Novice Plug lacks a curve and has a reasonable neck and a well-sized base which should reassure even the most tentative of anal beginners while still providing an alluring little plug for those with experience.
The silicone surface used for the b-Vibe Novice Plug is matte and lives up to the luxury standard that we’ve all come to expect from toys priced about $100 nowadays. This silicone is so wonderfully smooth that it does feel literally rich. This also makes the b-Vibe Novice Plug non-porous, phthalate-free, and completely body-safe, which is essential for anal toys (and pretty much all toys, really).
I would say that the b-Vibe Novice Plug’s matte surface provides it with a tad more grip than a glossy surface would but, honestly, it’s so brilliantly smooth and gentle that it’s hard to say it adds much in terms of engaging the area that it’s in contact with. That job is instead left to the shape and the vibrations, which isn’t a bad call at all. Oh and this thing doesn’t pick up any dust or lint either, making it pretty much my dream product in terms of material cleanliness.
Why do I mention the Trio Plug? Because after feeling the Novice Plug all Mr Peaches and I can do is fantasize about owning the Trio Plug and having three times the fun that this vibrator already provides.
The vibrations from the Novice Plug are strong from the get-go in a way that might actually make some users do a double-take in terms of whether or not they can handle the rumble. But handle them we can and Mr Peaches and I both found ways to enjoy the vibrations this toy provides.
For him the deep and yet shuddering rumble of the Novice Plug’s powerful single motor was enough to make him squirm with delight and jolt with excitement every time the pattern or intensity was changed. For me I’d happily use this plug as a clitoral vibrator and it had no problems tipping me over the edge.
The b-Vibe Novice Plug comes with a travel lock and, considering its vibrations and size, would make a great compact travel partner for pretty much anyone. The only big glaring issue is that if you take it as you’re only vibe then you may just well fight over it, because it’s more than capable of satisfying the needs of most people to like mid-to-strong vibrations with a suitable (if not highly shuddery) rumble.
Speaking of couples, one of the best features of the b-Vibe Novice Plug is that is has a remote control that allows you to control it from 30 feet away.
Can I just say that when it comes to anal vibrators having a remote is one of the most vital aspects to providing seamless play. Buttons on the base mean that you’re left having to poke your booty every now and then, which can really break immersion, and a button on the insertable part of the toy is just mind-numbingly frustrating. A remote allows for effortless and confident control while also allowing you to hand the pleasure over to someone else for some additional teasing.
As opposed to an app a control also stops you from getting lube on your phone and so rarely feels the need to indulge in excessive gimmicks. It’s just you, the buttons, and, in this case, 6 vibration intensities and 15 patterns.
Yes. Just yes.
I think the control alone sold this vibrator for my partner and I, and we’ve had endless amounts of fun with it—using it as both punishment and reward. Offering deprivation and encouragement. Whenever we use this plug the remote is always to hand and I feel like it’s a really strong aspect of the toy.
Orgasms with this vibrator were good for me and brilliant for Mr Peaches. He is a real fan of this plug and feels that the vibrations provide ample amounts of P-Spot stimulation despite the lack of curve.
The only issue for him (although I count it as a big one) is that this plug keeps on slipping out.
This is not at all common for Mr Peaches and so for me it’s worrying. Will this happen for other users? How does this align with the supposed beginner-friendly aspect of this toy? What in particular is causing this to occur when he’s literally never experienced this with any other butt plug of the same type.
Mr Peaches mostly dismisses this concern. He feels that the sensations provided are more than enough to appease him and to soften any downsides, he simply doesn’t use it during sex (because it will slip out). I’m much more stuck on this point, but it seems that individual preference may come in to play here.
Of much more annoyance as an objective downside is that this plug is only water resistant and not waterproof. I assume this is because of the USB charging (1 hr 30 of play time for a 2.5 hour charge) but so many other vibrators have managed to get around this now that it feels sloppy for a toy with this price not to have overcome this barrier.
Other than that there really are no faults to this plug, just various degrees of concern which, it seems, will differ from user-to-user.
Overall both Mr Peaches and I really liked this plug and he has already stated that he’ll be keeping it to hand.
Although I cans see why he may feel this way I am less sold on a butt plug that fails on one of the fundamentals (staying in place) and think that for its price range the b-Vibe Novice Plug should have at least achieved the minimum expected for what it is.
That being said I cannot deny the pleasure it has given my clit, nor the fun both of us have had using the controls.
Overall the b-Vibe Novice Plug is a divisive toy in our household and something that I struggle to reach a solid conclusion on.
Perhaps if the neck and base design were a bit different then our biggest issue with this toy would be resolved. As it stands I am still processing how I feel about a great butt plug that just doesn’t have the staying power to fully convince me of its price tag.
