Product Review: System Jo Naturalove USDA Certified Organic Original Lubricant

I’ve been on a real System Jo kick recently. I tried and loved their standard and flavoured lubricants a while ago and have since aspired to try every single flavour they have to offer. I may have some rather strange life goals but I digress.

Kindly reaching out, System Jo asked me if I was also interested in trying their organics range and (aspiring ethical shopper that I am) I jumped on the chance.

The System Jo Naturalove range is all about keeping things as natural and safe for the planet as possible, all while providing a great, body-safe lubricant. Oh baby, that’s what I like to hear.

Chief among these products is the System Jo Naturalove USDA Certified Organic Original Lubricant, which is the standard water-based lubricant for this range. I say ‘standard’ but really there’s nothing standard about s lubricant.

In fact despite testing a lot of lubricants I can honestly say that I’ve never come across one quite like the System Jo Naturalove USDA Certified Organic Original Lubricant before, and I mean that in the best possible way.

The System Jo Naturalove USDA Certified Organic Original Lubricant

The System Jo Naturalove Original Lubricant is an organic offering from the fabulous folks over at System Jo. The range aspires to enhance ‘the pleasures of intimacy’ by providing a more natural experience. There’s no worrying about nasty parabens or any other risky ingredient when it comes to this lubricant. As it stands over 95% of the ingredients are certified as organic.

I love it when a product exceeds my expectations.
I love it when a product exceeds my expectations.

What exactly does this mean? Well in addition to making this product less likely to cause irritation (even my sensitive skin found this product to be a-okay) the certification and use of organic ingredients includes a whole slew of benefits. An organic certification factors in points such as soil and water quality, pest control, livestock practices (where applicable), and the use of additives. Organic products therefore help promote the preservation of natural resources, increased biodiversity, brings animal welfare in to greater consideration, and reduces a reliance of genetically modified ingredients. All of which, I think we can agree, is favourable where achievable.

The result is a water-based lubricant with the following ingredients:
Water (Aqua), Chamomilla Recutita Flower Extract*, Tequilana Azul (Agave) Leaf Extract*, Flavor (Aroma)*, Carrageenan, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Extract*, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Fruit Extract*, Juniperus Communis Fruit Extract*, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract*

While some of these ingredients are more familiar to me than others I have to confess that the System Jo Naturalove Original Lubricant threw me off immediately. Mainly because, upon pouring it out, I was greeted with a brilliant almond fluid that looked more like nectar than a water-based lubricant. I rubbed my fingers together and the slick, thin mixture felt more akin to a silicone or oil-based lubricant than any water-based lube I’d tried before. When I held it to my nose I was greeted with the luscious aroma of sweet vanilla. I lapped it up and, sure enough, this lubricant followed up on its aroma in taste. I was baffled.

Looking at the bottle I frantically tried to figure out if it was, indeed, water-based lubricant before using it for PiV (oil-based lubricants and condoms don’t play well together) and, sure enough, it was water-based. I was sincerely baffled.

Everything about this lubricant screams silicone or a light oil-based lube as opposed to being aqua-based. Consistency-wise this lubricant is very thin. It feels silky smooth like silicone but without the powdery undertones. It feels almost like watered down maple syrup or agave nectar. This, perhaps, shouldn’t be too surprising—as agave extract is one of the ingredients in this lube—but it sure threw me for a loop.

Not that it matters because the moment I applied this lubricant I was one smitten kitten. There’s something about the thin syrupy consistency of this lubricant which makes it feel at the same time completely innocuous and wonderfully luxurious. Slathering this lubricant over my vulva and caressing my labia with it felt like a treat all its own. Turns out that it’s the chamomile (used as a preservative system) in this lubricant which gives it its amber colouration whereas vanilla scent and flavour was added.

Together these two components merge together to provide an almost unique head-space when using this lubricant. When I pour it out I feel like a tourist in Olympus sampling the nectar of the gods, their sweet ambrosia gracing my genitals. I close my eyes and surrender to the sensation. This lubricant feels almost naturally warm and thus invites exploration. Or more than one occasion I have been tempted to lick my fingers after slathering this lubricant and have encouraged Mr. Peaches to do the same—reveling in the combination of my fluids and the sweet (but not sickly) sampling of vanilla that this product provides.

It’s fair to say that I’m a fan of this lubricant and consider it to be an absolute treat to use, but that doesn’t mean this product is perfect.

Because this lubricant is so thin it doesn’t provide as good a buffer for powerful sex toys and is totally useless as anal lubricant. We also found that it’s not as effective for long bouts of rapid thrusting and friction can begin to creep in after some time.

Instead this product is much better suited to slower sessions, gentler toys (it’s great with glass and metal), or moments where you want to pamper yourself with a near-mythological masturbation session. But if you like or need a thicker water-based lubricant then I’d sadly give this product a miss.

The sweet ingredients may also be a bit of an issue for people who are prone to UTIs, though I personally didn’t find this to be a problem. That’s saying something too, as I’m notoriously sensitive.

So really outside of preference there’s not much to be said against this lubricant at all. On a more personal note I would have liked to have known if this product is vegan or not via the bottle it came in but I suppose you can’t win ‘em all.

Final Thoughts

When a lubricant alleviates friction and enhances sensation then it has served its purpose well, however when it provides its own unique texture and ambiance then the lubricant goes beyond simply fulfilling it role—it provides an experience which often feels like a highly charged sexual action all its own.

Very few lubricants make me feel this way but the System Jo Naturalove Original Lubricant is one of them. From its unique colouration, to its stroking glide, to its subtle sweetness this lubricant is a winner in every regard if you want a thin, water-based lubricant which goes beyond being just functional and treads in to the realms of uniquely fulfilling.

There are people who clearly won’t gel well with this lubricant (pun very much intended) but for those who do the System Jo Nautralove Original Lubricant is pure bliss in a bottle.

Recommend to:
People who like thin lubricants.
People who want an organic lubricant.
People who use watered down honey or syrup as their go-to lube (that’s right—I know you exist and please stop it, you’re just asking for a UTI. This lubricant is a much safer alternative, promise x)

Do Not Recommend to:
People who need a thick lubricant.
People who want an anal lubricant.
People who dislike sweet lubricants.
