Toy Review: The Laid C.1 Clitoral Vibrator

Laid’s line of products have always managed to capture my imagination. With products such as a Blue Pearl Larvakite Dildo and a Black Granite Butt Plug the Laid line has always come with a great sense of adventure and discovery.

Admittedly, the Laid C.1 Vibrator is not made of such grand, ancient material. Yet despite this the Laid C.1 does still manage to perfectly encapsulate the exploratory excitement of the Laid line. This clitoral vibrator may not be the strongest I’ve tried, but it more than makes up for it with the potential it provides.

To use the Laid C.1 Clitoral Vibrator is to approach masturbation from a different angle and, personally, I welcome it in to my collection.

The Laid C.1 Clitoral Vibrator

The Laid C.1 Clitoral Vibrator is the only vibrator in the Laid line but still manages to be a very adept sex toy. The Laid C.1 was made with exploration in mind. Much like Laid’s dildos, the Laid C.1 is asymmetrical in shape. It also sports a flat section with a studded pattern (into which ‘C.1’ has been adorably placed). The last notable feature of the Laid C.1’s design is a circular handle of sorts, which can be gripped in multiple ways.

Within the design of this vibrator is a world of possibilities.
Within the design of this vibrator is a world of possibilities.

These three elements combined make the Laid C.1 into a sex toy of many possibilities. The asymmetry allows users to explore multiple different angles and types of pressure, allowing users to decide what works best for them. Meanwhile the studded nodules allow users to tease themselves with texture, deciding whether or not the increased sensation works for them.

Because the handle can be used in a variety of ways it also means that you never feel like you’re holding the Laid C.1 incorrectly. The handle is basically a seal of approval for whatever position you use the Laid C.1 in: it never judges and always facilitates your masturbatory habits. In this way it’s kind of like the sex toy equivalent of the fairy godmother except without that pesky midnight clause. As long as the Laid C.1 is charged you can use it whenever you wish.

The Laid C.1 is controlled by a single button which filters through its rather minimal 2 speeds and 1 pulsating pattern. Typically I’d like at least 3 speeds on my vibrator but I kind of feel like this was an intentional statement on Laid’s side. It says to me that the vibrations themselves are secondary to actually feeling the toy’s surface and deciding what feels right to you. It’s a nice statement about sexual discovery, for sure, and I can appreciate it. Sometimes simplicity is better.

In terms of luxury perks the Laid C.1 is waterproof (making it easy to clean) and USB rechargeable. It also has a low battery warning feature built right into the device. 120 minutes of charging will get you up to 110 minutes of play (or a 90 day standby time) which is respectable. Not every toy on the market can produce an almost one-to-one ratio like that so I’m happy to see that Laid pulled it off.

The Laid C.1 also manages to be one of the quieter clitoral toys on the market. Not whisper quiet but discreet enough that I doubt you’d hear it through a door (especially not if there’s music on too).

I'm still not the biggest fan of very long charge prongs, though.
I’m still not the biggest fan of very long charge prongs, though.

The Laid C.1 is made out of silicone which is phthalate-free, non-porous and completely body-safe. This silicone has a matte feel and feels very smooth when stroking your hands across it. If I had one thing to say against the Laid C.1’s silicone it’s that there’s a very noticeable seam running around the toy but this never once detracted from my experience so this isn’t a major gripe.

The vibrations of the Laid C.1 are certainly not the strongest on the market, but they are effective. In terms of sensation the lowest setting has a flickering buzz to it accompanied by a deep hum which creates an undertone of depth. When using the higher setting the buzz of this toy increases and the sensations (and sounds) that this vibrator offers become much higher pitched. That being said the persistent depth of the lower hum is still present, it’s simply that the high, mid-strength buzz stands out more initially. The pulsations on the pattern mode are very standard and don’t exactly wow me but, then again, I’m rarely wowed by patterns.

Because this toy provides gentle-to-mid level vibrations I would be less inclined to recommend to to a power queen. Regardless of this I can still orgasm with this toy, it simply takes more time. Or, perhaps I should say ‘I take more time’: more time to appreciate the sensations, play with the angles, and experience the shift in texture. Different parts of this toy also transfer the vibrations with varying degrees of strength, which adds another layer to exploring this vibrator and your own body.

The Laid C.1 surprised me in terms of my own user preference.
The Laid C.1 surprised me in terms of my own user preference.

When first using it I soon found, to my surprise, that I wasn’t a big fan of the studded section of this toy, but I did like the more pin-pointed tip at the transition line between studded and smooth silicone. This is where I personally gained the strongest orgasms and, when I did, I not only enjoyed the orgasm but felt like I’d accomplished something more because I’d learnt more about what does and doesn’t work with my body. I’ve used this vibrator a fair few times now and I still feel like I could learn more from using it, which is an exciting prospect.

However, its gentler vibrations aren’t what my body naturally prefers so I have to be in the mood to really attune to the subtler arousal of my clitoris in order to reap the benefits of this toy. Otherwise it’s just not enough power for me. This could very well be the case for other users so keep your strength preferences in mind when considering this toy for purchase.

The flip side of these gentler vibrations and my stronger preferences were the orgasms that came from the Laid C.1. While these orgasms never wowed me in terms of brute-force they did wow me in other regards. I’ve already mentioned the probing benefits of the Laid C.1 but using a gentler vibrator also allowed me to focus more on the insertable toys I would use with this toy too. With my clitoris receiving a lighter touch I was able to feel the internal stimulation with much more clarity and could feel exactly what brought me to orgasm via the G-Spot. All-in-all the Laid C.1 gave me some incredibly revealing orgasms and some experiences I’m not likely to forget.

That being said my main downside with the Laid C.1 is still its vibration strength. I understand what this toy is going for, and can totally appreciate it, but the option for stronger, rumblier vibrations wouldn’t go amiss. Perhaps now that Laid is owned by the same company that makes the We-Vibe range of vibrators we can expect a stronger version in the years to come. Fingers crossed.

Final Thoughts

Making a memorable vibrator (for all the right reasons) is perhaps one of the better achievements in the sex toy roster of awards and the Laid C.1 certainly deserves pride of place in this regard.

Conceptually I really like the Laid C.1’s aspirations towards versatility and I think they are very well executed in practice. Using this toy was an enlightening experience and when a sex toy reviewer is saying that you know it holds some weight.

That being said I’m still not sure I would recommend the Laid C.1 to wand-lovers and rumble purists. The Laid C.1 has a lot going for it, but its vibration strength does take a back burner to the design of the toy itself. This certainly isn’t a bad thing but it does mean you need to keep your vibration preference firmly in mind if you want to buy the Laid C.1 Vibrator.
