Do you see the handcuffs in the photo below? Would it ever be outwardly apparent that one of those cuffs came handmade and the other pair was made by me from scratch? I don’t think so, and I’m incredibly excited about that fact.
Because, yes, I made the pink pair myself thanks to the expert tuition of Kink Craft and the material provided in their Kink Craft Figure-8 Cuff Kit. I am still in awe of how I managed to make a pair of cuffs that look so professional and function so well. And, what’s more, the brunt of the work was done in just over an hour. I’m still reeling from it all.
When Kink Craft asked me if I wanted to try their Figure-8 Cuff Kit I was apprehensive. I had already reviews the Figure-8 Cuffs (and loved them, in case you’re curious) but I was unsure as to whether or not I could make them myself. I am terrible at knots and crafts in general. I panic easily and I don’t have much in the way of finesse. However, the lovely people over at Kink Craft had faith I me so I thought I’d try and gain a new skill.
Kink Craft’s Figure-8 Cuff Kit
As usual the kit provided came in a beautiful box in which the contents were wrapped in colourful tissue paper. Everything I needed to craft my cuffs was included: paracord, an O-ring, a buckle and a little wooden ‘poker’. The only things I needed to supply myself were a pair of scissors, a lighter, and (every sex bloggers best friend) a tape measure.
The Figure-8 Cuff Kit also included the code needed to purchase the crafting course. In order to access the course all you need to do is add it to your basket and put the coupon code in when prompted. You then make you £0.00 purchase and go back to the course page. Everything should then be available for you once you scroll down the page.
I’d be lying if I said I had an easy start. I quickly got confused and a bit panicked by the huuuuge amount of paracord provided and didn’t know how I would manage to navigate it all.
Measurements need to be taken early on in the crafting process (to make sure the cuffs fit come the end) and the maths needed to calculate these measurements sent my brain reeling. It’s not that they were poorly conveyed, rather I have maths-based anxiety and the prospect of calculating measurements scared the hell out of me. I also managed to get my buckle parts twisted…twice, and Mr. Peaches got frustrated with my freak out and placed his cuff-making kit aside for another time.
In the beginning I kept on telling myself the same thing: “I’m not good at knots, I’m not good at crafting, I’m not good at this”. But do you know what I was really good at as a teen? Making scoobies. Do you know what crafting these cuffs reminded me of? Yup, you guessed it.
There is one key knot that you will need to learn in order to craft these cuffs and, once you’ve learnt it, it’s just a case of weaving your way down the length of the cuffs until it’s complete. As soon as this realisation hit me I found crafting the Figure-8 Cuffs to be incredibly easy and very therapeutic. As I said before, most of it from that point onwards took about an hour and it was an enjoyable hour.
The fact that I freaked out was entirely a product of my own creation, whereas the Kink Craft instructions were precise, informative, and incredibly helpful. You could pause at any point and important knots were shown with two different colours, making following along a breeze.
As I crafted my cuffs I was increasingly impressed by just how nice they were turning out, though, I’ll admit, my hands did get a bit sore mid-way through.
There was only one bit I messed up in the end product and that was searing off the ends. The result is a tiny burn mark on the back of my cuffs but this isn’t damning. My finishes cuffs are beautiful, highly practical and fit perfectly. I couldn’t be happier.
(I made a scoobie with the leftover paracord too).
I am over the moon with my Figure-8 Cuffs and highly recommend this crafting kit to others. Not only is it £10 cheaper than purchasing the cuffs handmade but you also gain a new skill and the pride that comes from creating your own kink wear.
Having seen my cuffs Mr. Peaches is also looking forward to crafting his and I will update this post when he has done so.
So what are you waiting for!? If I can do it, then you certainly can. Trust me, you’ll love the results.
