Toy Review: The Icicles No. 24 Tentacle Glass Dildo

Tentacles have a long-running association with hentai and Japanese culture (at least from the perspective of a westerner).

As it turns out the Japanese have included tentacles in their erotic art work (or ‘Shunga’) since the 19th century, with paintings such as Hokusai’s The Dream of the Fisherman’s Wife acting as a prime example.  However, 20th century inclusions of tentacles in pornography came about as a response to censorship legislation as a way of getting around obscenity laws. After all, a tentacle is most certainly not a penis.

So, to sum things up in a basic manner, so-called ‘tentacle porn’ was actually Japan’s way to fight back against restrictive codes of censorship that were being introduced into their culture. As someone who lives in a country that is currently going censorship mad when it comes to porn I can definitely appreciate that.

And, really, what isn’t there to appreciate about the Icicles No. 24 Tentacle Glass Dildo? The answer to that is the shitty business approach that Pipedream takes, but putting that aside and considering the product on its own terms it suddenly becomes a lot more appealing.

This tentacle-shaped dildo is stunning and, while it may have deviated from its original point of inspiration, I still wouldn’t hesitate to call it a work of art in its own right.

The Icicles No. 24 Tentacle Glass Dildos

The Icicles No. 24 Tentacle is, as its name implies, part of a line of products made by Pipedream. The company, themselves, are pretty unlikeable and I think it’s up to each individual person to decide whether or not they’d want to buy from them. However the lovely Cara Sutra allowed me to buy this dildo off of her second-hand, and it’s one that I have been coveting for quite some time, so for this review I shall be looking past the questionable morals of the makers of this toy and will, instead, be enjoying some tentacle goodness.

This toy is stunning to look at.

The Icicles No. 24 Tentacle is one of those products that just has an inherent beauty to me. Made out of pale pink, body safe, borosilicate glass the beautiful swirling shape of the Tentacle temps you to look at its glossy feeler and leaves you admiring its pronounced nodules. The top section of the Tentacle is, in fact, covered in nodules, which run either side of a central indent. Meanwhile the other side of the Tentacle is covered in veiny ridges which adds to the aesthetics of the toy.

Still, it’s fair to say that none of these choices are purely aesthetic, and the Tentacle’s form does provide some amazing texture and stimulation. With an insertable length of about 4.5 inches and a maximum circumference to match the tentacle isn’t long but it can be chunky (perhaps too chunky for some).

The bottom side of the Tentacle adds some extra texture to the toy.

Personally I never found the Tentacle to be overly large but glass is an unyielding material so its size does show a little bit more. This, in part, can be counteracted with how smooth and receptive to lubricant glass can be, but it’s fair to say that you shouldn’t underestimate this toy.

The firm nature of glass also means that each texture on the Tentacle is extremely prominent and doesn’t have any give. This, for some, will be a dream (texture lovers, for example), but if you are sensitive to texture then this might make the Tentacle a bit too overwhelming for you.

In many ways the shape and material of the Tentacle makes it a perfect sensation toy. Not only is it designed to provide somewhat of a texture overload but glass can also be heated or cooled to add some temperature play into the mix. Personally I love my glass toys warmed up so that they provide and oddly cosy feeling. But there is also something to be said about having a sharply cold tentacle ease its way into your body—each nodule’s caress heightened with a chilly tinge.

Because the Tentacle has so much texture it can be used for clitoral stimulation. The nodules and the ridges both do well at this job but, personally, I prefer the veiny ridges as they are a little bit more forgiving. However this toy’s main purpose it as a dildo.

The swirling form of the Tentacle does more than just look pretty when it comes to insertion. Because it loops at the end the Tentacle essentially has a handle, whereas the curve in the shaft of the toy provides some reasonable G-spot stimulation.

The loop at the end of the Tentacle makes for a great little handle.

I’ve always been a bit hit-and-miss with texture but, personally, I didn’t find the tentacle to be too much at any point. In fact I quite liked the distinctive sensation of the Tentacles’ nodules running across my vaginal walls. I would say this did help to heighten the sensitivity of my G-spot, while the ridges of the Tentacle could occasionally be felt stroking my vaginal entrance too.

Orgasms with the Tentacle were pleasant and very unique. While I wouldn’t say the Tentacle gives me outstanding orgasms the way the texture feels upon climax definitely makes the Tentacle stand out in terms of texture. It’s a toy I appreciate using when I want to feel those glassy nodules do their thing but it’s not something I’d grab for as a standard; it’s more like a scratch that alleviates a very specific itch.

Bottom line if you like texture (specifically nodules and ridges) then you’ll probably like this toy, perhaps even love it. However the texture of this toy is also probably one of its biggest downfalls. When it comes to personal preference people who can’t handle texture most likely won’t like this toy. People who don’t like glass probably won’t like his toy. And people who generally have no interest in buying a glass tentacle to stick in their chosen orifice probably also won’t like this toy.

Personally I like the Tentacle specifically because it is so bizarre, so abstract, and so unlike any realistic design that it is able to provide a very notable sensation which is unlike that of other toys on the market. I’m not a big fan of restricting toys to simply the realms of reality/the realistic so this is something that I can definitely appreciate. How you feel about it, however, is up to you.

Final Thoughts

Overall I quite liked the Tentacle and really can’t fault it on its design or execution. This toy is exactly what it wants to be and does exactly what it wants to do and that can provide some very effective outcomes. I personally enjoyed my orgasms with this toy and feel confident that lovers of textured glass dildos will feel the same.
