Product Review: Sliquid Naturals Silk Hybrid Lubricant

When I think of the word ‘silk’ certain things come to mind. First and foremost I think of a deliciously smooth texture; one with enough delicacy to make it distinctively sleek but with a velvety undertone that makes a lasting impression to the touch.

Naturally I couldn’t help but think of these things when Belle De Soir sent me a sample of Sliquid Silk to review and my expectations were high. Then again I have high expectations with most Sliquid products and they’re almost always met or, in some cases, exceeded.

But Sliquid Silk stands apart from the previous Sliquid products I’ve reviewed. Why? Well because it’s actually not a wholly water-based lubricant. Instead Sliqud Silk is a hybrid lubricant—a water-based, silicone blend.

Sliquid Silk certainly provides a different experience to your typical water-based or silicone-based lubricant, and it’s one that deserves praise.

Sliquid Naturals Silk Hybrid Lubricant

Sliquid Silk is part of the Sliquid Naturals range—a groups of products that all share the same core formulation of ingredients that can be found in Sliquid H2O.

Sliquid Silk has a consistency that's all its own.
Sliquid Silk has a consistency that’s all its own.

With only 5 ingredients in Sliquid H2O this means that the Naturals range is appropriate for most people. Indeed, Sliquid Silk claims to be free from parabens, gluten, glycerine, glycerol, propylene glycol, sorbitol, and sulphates in addition to being pH balanced and hypoallergenic. Now that’s impressive and a huge relief for anyone like me who has sensitive skin.

However, beyond the usual Sliquid formula Sliquid Silk has its own unique element. In addition to having the Sliquid H2O formula Sliquid have blended Sliquid Silk with 12% silicone and emollient esters. This leaves Sliquid Silk with a thicker, texture that is ideal for longer play sessions or those who need a denser buffer of lubricant.

Sliquid Silk really does have a distinct appearance. The lubricant is milky in appearance and even feels creamy to some extent. It kind of reminds me of cum but I’m getting ahead of myself. First the scent and taste tests.

Sliquid Silk honestly smells really good to me. It’s technically fragrance-free, so you don’t need to worry about any obnoxious perfumes, but the natural scent of the ingredients is really appealing. To me they smell similar to strawberries or a sorbet—something that is fruity, fresh, and invigorating. I let Mr. Peaches smell it and he said that it smelt like the insides of a Quality Street chocolate, the Strawberry Delight one. It’s certainly a delight to smell.  However this smell isn’t really apparent unless holding the lube rather close to the nose, so it’s not at all overpowering.

Unfortunately the taste of this lubricant isn’t as pleasant as its scent. When first tasting it there is an unpleasant tang to it which I’m inclined to attribute to the emollient ester. This is followed by a sweet, fruity undertone but it’s really nothing compared to the primary taste. Overall I would avoid using this lubricant during or before oral and it’s best wiped off if it’s been used before initiating oral.

Sliquid Silk manages to feel semi-creamy while still keeping its water-based benefits.
Sliquid Silk manages to feel semi-creamy while still keeping its water-based benefits.

The texture of Sliquid Silk is where its unique combination of ingredients really shines through. Thick and surprisingly creamy to the touch, Sliquid Silk manages to provide a substantial, glossy layer of lubricant while still keeping a watery feeling. Like all Sliquid lubricants it’s slick to the touch and is supremely smooth, however because of the silicone it’s also supremely silken, keeping true to its name.

Using this lubricant is an absolute delight. The simple act of spreading it across the chose area is something to enjoy—as the lubricants texture and consistently allow it to be slathered rather than spread over the body.

The lubricant itself is nicely thick but not quite gel-like. It’s kind of like a combination of gel and cream but with a similar thickness to Sliquid Sassy. This means that some people might find Sliquid Silk good as an anal lube, but some might still find it too thin for them. For use with toys, though, Sliquid Silk provides a fantastic, long-lasting buffer which will smooth off the feeling of the strongest of vibrations. I love using this lubricant with my compatible wands for this reason.

During intercourse Mr. Peaches and I really liked this lubricant. Sliquid Silk still makes sex unbelievably slick however with Sliquid Silk the added silicone seemed to add the ideal amount of drag to our actions. Not enough to cause discomfort, but the perfect amount to add friction and enhance the sensation. This was particularly apparent for me and I really enjoyed each experience with this lubricant.

When it comes to the downsides they’re few and far between with Sliquid Silk.

The biggest one for me is that, as it contains silicone, this product is not suitable to use with silicone toys. This can be a bit of a kill joy because a lot of my favourite toys are made from silicone, but if this isn’t an issue for you then that’s great.

It should be said that some companies claim that they’ve had no reactions with their silicone toys when testing silicone lubricants on them so, really, it’s up to you to decide whether or not you want to try this lube on your silicone toys. Personally I don’t like risking it but if you want to try then I recommend a little spot test before full use.

Another issue with Sliquid Silk is that, depending on how much you use, this lubricant does have staying power so you might need a thorough clean-off after use. For me I did find that I had some mild irritation and itching sensations after use (though no negative effects during use) so this might be something for people with sensitive skin to factor in.

Other than these two things I really can’t think of anything bad to say about Sliquid Silk.

Final Thoughts

Sliquid Silk is a real winner. With a unique consistency, a slick and silky glide to it, and an impressive amount of longevity Sliquid Silk has something truly distinct to offer to your play sessions.

If you have strong toys that need a buffer, like enhanced sensations during sex, or simply want a lubricant that lasts an impressively long time then Sliquid Silk might be for you. However if you’re a silicone toy lover then this lubricant might leaving feeling a bit crestfallen.

Belle De Soir sells Sliquid Silk in three different sizes—125ml, 255ml, and a 5ml sampler sachet. If you want to try this lubricant I wholeheartedly recommend buying it from Belle De Soir as their customer service skills and attention to detail are both exceptional.

  • Sion Rodriguez y Gibson

Nice review (as always). Just want to note that you can use some silicon lubes with silicon toys. Taurus has in fact tested their silicon with Sliquid and there are no problems.

I think it’s only silicon-blend toys (ie not actually silicon) that have the problem.

    • Thank you very much.

Yeah, I am aware that some silicone toys don’t have a reaction to silicone lubricant and it’s something I’ve mentioned in previous reviews but I’ll add it to this one too. Thank you so much for reminding me to do so!
