Product Review: Sliquid Oceanics Carrageenan Natural Lubricant

It would be no exaggeration to say that I utterly adore Sliquid. Their lubricants are typically my go-to in the bedroom and their high standards when it comes to their ingredients and ethos make me a very happy reviewer indeed.

As such I was over the moon when I found out that one of my favourite online retailers, Belle De Soir, had started stocking some popular Sliquid products.  In my opinion there aren’t enough ways to easily get Sliquid products in the UK so this announcement made me sincerely giddy.

Belle de Soir were also kind enough to provide me with three different Sliquid lubricants to review for you guys and Sliquid’s Oceanics Carrageenan Natural Lubricant was one of them. Being part of the Organics line, I had pretty high hopes for this lubricant and I’m glad to say that it didn’t disappoint at all.

The Sliquid Oceanics Carrageenan Natural Lubricant is just another example of how fantastic Sliquid’s lubricants truly are and I’m happy to incorporate it into my sex life.

Sliquid Oceanics Carrageenan Natural Lubricant

As I’ve mentioned before the Sliquid Oceanics Carrageenan Natural Lubricant is part of Sliquid’s Organics line, which comes with a few unique and luxurious perks.

This wonderful lubricant is an extravagant asset in the bedroom.

Sliquid as a brand has two different types of lubricant—Sliquid Naturals and Sliquid Organics. The Sliquid Naturals line consists of 13 different kinds of lubricant which aim to cater to everyone. Each of the water-based products in the Naturals line derives its formula from a core mixture of 5 simple ingredients and builds off of the formula from there, keeping things as pure as possible.

Sliquid Organics, on the other hand, goes the extra mile when it comes to purity and quality. In essence Sliquid Organics takes some of the most popular choices from the Naturals line and gives them the deluxe experience—infusing them with certified organic botanicals. These additional ingredients serve to enhance the benefits of the lubricant while also advocating for an organic lifestyle (something some people value highly).

In the case of Sliquid Oceanics the ingredients involved have an aquatic inspiration—as Sliquid Oceanics is the organic counterpart to Sliquid Sea. The main three ingredients in Sliquid Oceanics are as follows:

Carrageenan: Made from parts of red algae or seaweed, Carrageenan is a common binder or thickening agent in things such as food and toothpaste. Its properties as a natural lubricant also makes it an incredibly useful ingredient in sexual lubricants.

Some lab tests have shown that Carrageenan has merit when it comes to stopping genital warts from spreading too, though this lubricant shouldn’t be solely relied upon for doing so.

Wakame: Wakame is a red algae well known for its invigorating and beneficial skin care effects. It’s often used in anti-wrinkle and skin rejuvenation products while also working as a natural source of Vitamins A, B, C, and E. People often eat Wakame too for its other benefits which, while it has little to do with this ingredients benefits as a lubricant, may just provide one more valuable excuse to go down on your partner.

Nori: Nori is a green algae and acts as a natural moisturizer. It’s also a great source of Folic Acid and minerals such as Zinc, Iodine, Iron, and Copper.

Each of these ingredients offer clear benefits, meaning that after use your skin feels hydrated and cared for (which is a nice after effect more than a clear necessity, but it can still feel fantastic).

Additional ingredients allow Sliquid Oceanics to live up to its namesake.

In addition to these benefits Sliquid Oceanics is also glycerine free, paraben free, pH balanced, hypoallergenic, and completely body safe. It’s also 100% vegan and the bottle is made out of recycled materials where possible, giving this lubricant an eco-friendly vibe that shouldn’t be underestimated.

When it comes to the lubricant I, of course, gave it the basic scent, taste, and texture tests first. Although infused with so many additional elements Sliquid Oceanics manages to maintain a very neutral odour. It has a gentle aqua undertone when held very close to the nose but it otherwise delightfully odour-free, which is great news for anyone with a sensitive nose.

Sliquid Oceanics has no strong flavour either. When trying a large dollop of it I noticed a very gentle metallic tang which could very well be from the Nori but, otherwise, it is fairly neutral. This means that Sliquid Oceanics won’t prevent oral sex (unlike some more unpleasant tasting lubricants) however it’s not specifically designed for it either and isn’t flavoured for oral enjoyment.

When it comes to texture, well, Sliquid rules supreme and this lubricant is no exception. Sliquid Oceanics is runny but still has a thick consistency it that isn’t gel-like but still manages to provide an effective buffer for sex toys. In terms of feeling Sliquid Oceanics is the very definition of slick. Sliquid Oceanics strikes the perfect unison between glossy and smooth sensations to provide a lubricant that glides effortlessly across skin and makes comfortable penetration a breeze (even with very draggy toys, which simply require a bit more lube).

Thick but not quite gel-level in terms of consistency, this lubricant is a pleasure to use.

Unlike some water-based lubricants Sliquid Oceanics lasts for a decent amount of time without needing to be reapplied. In fact the only time I have to stop what I’m doing with my partner to reapply some lubricant is when I’m using an incredibly strong vibrator such as the Doxy to top up that layer of lubricant buffer.

I have incredibly sensitive skin and this is often an issue with many lubricants but I had no problems with Sliquid Oceanics and thoroughly enjoyed using it. Although I’m not sure if the added botanical ingredients in this lubricant are working I do feel like my skin is also softer and more nourished since using this lubricant, however this may or may not be a placebo effect.

Despite frequent uses there is also quite a lot of lubricant left in my 125ml bottle (even though I could have sworn that I’ve used a gallon by now) so it’s fair to say that a small bottle can go a long way. For those who do want more however Sliquid Oceanics also comes in bottles of 255ml. On the flip side curious individuals can also buy a 5ml sachet to test if this lubricant is right for them.

Of course I’d love to say this lubricant was perfect but, alas, no product is without flaws and even this wonderful lubricant has a few.

The biggest issue some might have with this lubricant is that if you want to thoroughly remove it then you will need to wash it off in a shower or with a washcloth. This might not be ideal for those who want a quick sex session and need to be spotless afterwards, however this lubricant does dry on the skin without many issues.

While the organic ingredients of this lubricant may also offer clear benefits for some may not care about the organic label, in which case Sliquid Sea is a similar product without the organic ingredients (and the slight price increase that comes with them). However in the grand scheme of things these downsides are very mild.

The truth is there’s not much to fault this lubricant on and if I were to come up with more reasons I’d feel like they were more nit-picks rather than legitimate criticisms.

Final Thoughts

Overall I love this lubricant and it has easily joined my must-buy list when it comes to Sliquid lubricants.

While not everyone will care about the organic element of this lubricant it cannot be denied that Sliquid has produced an extravagant product which does its job with incredible finesse and manages to last long both during use and in the bottle.

Every time I buy a Sliquid product I feel like I’m getting my money’s worth and this is true with this product too. It is, to me, a definite winner.

Why not capture the essence of the sea yourself by trying this lubricant yourself?

Great review but why recommend products that aren’t cleared for sale by the FDA? It’s great that you really like the product but how do you know it’s been tested and cleared as a safe product if it doesn’t have an FDA 510k approval?

    • Thank you for your reply. The main reason as to why FDA approval isn’t something I discussed in this review is because I am in the UK where we don’t have the FDA.

The FDA has also been shown to put a ridiculous amount of pressure on some small lube companies when it comes to getting approval.

Yes, for example, which is an organic lubricant (one that is actually approved for use by the NHS in the UK) are currently fighting tooth-and-claw to get FDA approval.

Meanwhile the FDA approve other lubricants from larger companies which have ingredients that have shown to cause reactions in people with sensitive skin (such as myself).

Sliquid’s issues with the FDA also seem to be mainly down to ethics. The owner of Sliquid does not want their products to be tested on animals in order to get FDA approval when they find such actions to be inhumane and wholly against the Sliquid manifesto.

You can find out more about all of this here:

Though I hope my comment acted as a good summary.
