Product Review: Sportsheets Plus Size Grey and Black Lace Strap-On

A while ago I had the pleasure of reviewing the Lovehoney’s Beginner’s Strap-On Harness Kit. This Kit won some of my favour by claiming to go up to 68 inches in circumference. Although this was great in theory, I found that in practice the harness simply didn’t accommodate my plus-sized curves well at all.

I only mention this because the moment I slid on the Sportsheets Plus Size Grey and Black Lace Strap-On I was instantly reminded on the Lovehoney Harness, and I could instantly see the difference between a harness that can accommodate plus sized women and a harness that was designed to accommodate plus sized women.

The Sportsheets Plus Size Grey and Black Lace Strap-On was designed by Sportsheets and developed “by women for women”. In the grand scheme of things, this harness is part of a wider plus sized line called ‘Sportsheets Plus’—which was created to allow plus sized women (sizes 12 to 30) to enjoy and embrace their sexuality just like any other person can. Sportsheets Plus is a self-esteem booster as well as a practical line of pretty decent products; I’ve already raved about the usefulness of the Sportsheets Plus Size Doggie Strap (an item that I still use frequently).

Sportsheets released their first plus sized harness—the Divine Diva Plus Size Strap-On—over a decade ago and it became an instant best seller. The Sportsheets Plus Size Grey and Black Lace Strap-On is a descendant of this heritage and reaps the benefit of years’ worth of feedback and refinement.

The harness itself is made out of Polyester, Polyurethane Foam, Polypropylene Webbing, ABS Plastic, and PVC Fabric. The foam is all internal, whereas the Polypropylene Webbing makes up the straps. The fabric that makes skin contact is satin, whereas the outer section is covered in Chantilly lace. This makes the harness very comfortable to wear, and is soft against the skin.

The harness also comes with two O-rings, which are interchangeable via four press studs. The O-rings measure 1.75 inches and 2 inches in diameter—allowing you to vary what toys you use with this harness. The O-rings are incredibly easy to insert and remove from the harness, and I always appreciate it when a company provides you with multiple O-rings to use.

Part of the Sportsheets Plus manifesto is to “give you confidence in the bedroom, making you feel sexy and showcasing your beautiful curves” and I think we can check that agenda off the list. The Sportsheets Plus Size Grey and Black Lace Strap-On looks stunning and it made me feel like a burlesque goddess when wearing it.

This harness is bringing sexy back.

You have to remember, it’s not often that plus sized ladies can easily find clothing they like, so to find a harness that’s not only passable, but downright gorgeous, it’s like a fireworks display of awesomeness. It’s like Sportsheets looked at every single piece of beautiful lingerie that usually ends at the size 16 mark and said “Screw that noise! We’re making this accessible for pretty much everyone in glorious harness form”.

The elegant detailing of the lace, the contrasting colour of the red ribbon, the corset-like tie that it is pulled into (which is then topped off with a delicate bow)—all of these features really make this harness stand out and make me drool with happiness.

The red of the ribbon really stands out against the blacks, whites, and greys of the harness.

The detailing on this harness is truly breathtaking.

However, all of the detailing is nothing if the harness is not functional, so how did this strap-on beauty function in practice? Pretty damn well actually.

Remember in the introduction when I said that you can tell the difference between a harness that can accommodate a plus sized woman and a harness that was designed to? Well this really becomes apparent during use. As with most jock strap harnesses, the Sportsheets Plus Size Grey and Black Lace Strap-On is easy to slide on and to adjust to size—simply tighten all the straps and you’re good to go. However, what’s really awesome about this harness are the size of the straps and the fabric sections.

Keeping plus sized women in mind, the fabric sections are clearly designed to effectively complement larger bodies and are designed proportionately. This means that it’s never a struggle to position sections in the right place, because they already have your size in mind.

By far the biggest difference between this harness and others I’ve tried, though, is the width of the straps. Most harnesses that consider plus sized women as a by-product tend to keep thin straps, but Sportsheets has put some chunky straps on this harness and they really work wonders. Instead of twisting and shifting all over my body, the thick straps on this harness stay firmly in place and feel like they are secure and supportive. For me this really did make all the difference, and I found this harness a much better fit for my body than previous harnesses I had tried.

Oh and did I mention that it has a small internal pocket which can accommodate bullet vibes, including the Tango? Pure awesome.

Just slide the Tango into the internal sleeve and you're ready to go.

Of course I’m overjoyed by both the appearance and functionality of the Sportsheets Plus Size Grey and Black Lace Strap-On, but no product is perfect, and some issues did arise when using this harness.

While the straps on the Sportsheets Plus Size Grey and Black Lace Strap-On were chunky enough for me to feel like they were secure, some did slide through the buckles a bit freely so readjustment was needed at times (though nowhere near as much as with some harnesses).

And, although this harness is advertised as machine washable, I couldn’t find any clear instructions on exactly what setting they’re best washed on.

For some the Sportsheets Plus Size Grey and Black Lace Strap-On might also seem a bit too detailed (or simply not to their taste). If this applied to you then why not check out the rest of the Sportsheets Plus line? They have the same basic harness in a few different colours and designs. Finally! Some choice.

Final Thoughts

Overall I really liked the Sportsheets Plus Size Grey and Black Lace Strap-On. It’s clear that Sportsheets is really dedicated to addressing both the physical and psychological hurdles that some plus sized women may face when seeing themselves as sexual beings, and they’ve clearly put a lot of thought and care into their products.

The Sportsheets Plus Size Grey and Black Lace Strap-On is a truly beautiful harness that performs really well during use (and at $49.99 it’s not too expensive either). If you’re a plus sized woman looking for a sexy strap-on then I can definitely recommend this harness.
