There was a time when those two words stuck fear into my heart and sent my mind reeling into strange fantasies involving a BDSM version of Frankenstein’s lab (complete with sparking jump leads and maniacal laughter). Let’s face it; most of us are brought up in life with a healthy fear of electricity. As such the idea of bringing something potentially dangerous into the bedroom is both titillating and terrifying.
In fact had it not been for Coco de Mer I probably would have veered cautiously away from electro sex for a very long time. However, upon being asked if I wanted to test a unit (in the palm of my hand, of course) I somehow managed to muster up my courage and say “Sure”. You only live once, after all.
It wasn’t long before I discovered that I had been worrying over nothing. Electro sex wasn’t scary. In fact it was actually quite exciting! After my demo it didn’t take me long before I contacted the lovely Hella over at ElectraStim and requested a chance to test some of the line and she (graciously) agreed.
It wasn’t long after that the ElectraStim Flick EM60-E Electro Stimulation Pack became my very first electo sex product and, based on my experiences so far, it certainly won’t be the last.
The ElectraStim Flick EM60-E Stimulation Pack
The ElectraStim Flick EM60-E Stimulation Pack is a very handy pack which basically contains everything you’ll need to get started with exploring electro sex and electro stimulation. Inside the smart box that this pack comes in you’ll find and ElectraStim Flick EM60 Single Channel Stimulator and its connecting wire, four ElectraPads, and the USB cable used to recharge the toy. The pack also comes with a storage pouch for the Flick EM60 Stimulator, which is very useful.
So, why is this pack so useful for beginners?
Well, y’see, in order to enjoy the wide array of toys and products that ElectraStim has to offer you’ll need a Stimulator. A Stimulator is basically the unit which will be used to provide and control the electro stimulation.
Every other product is hooked up to the Stimulator via 2x2mm pin connectors that then get hooked into toys. There are two types of toys—uni-polar and bi-polar. Put simply a bi-polar toy will use both of these pins while uni-polar pins only need one each (so you get to use two uni-polar toys at a time). For example the ElectraPads provided with this pack are uni-polar, whereas something like the Lula Electro Kegel Balls are bi-polar. Simple, right?
As with most of the ElectraStim line, I’ve come to learn that things that initially seem daunting or complicated are actually quite straightforward when you get down to business. Take for example the ElectraStim Flick EM60 Single Channel Stimulator. The idea of it seemed scary and complex to me at first, but I soon learnt that it was very easy to use, and even quite familiar.
The Flick EM60 Stimulator has 24 different intensity levels that you can choose from. These are controlled with a v and ^ button. An LED display tells you what level you are on and the device can be turned off quickly by pressing the on/off button located sensibly near the bottom of the device. Meanwhile the Flick EM60 also comes with 7 different pattern settings which provide different sensations. As with most vibrators, the default pattern is a continuous one. By holding down the pattern button down for 3 seconds you can also activate ‘Flick Mode’—which tailors stimulation based on your movements (done by holding the Stimulator flat and shaking it like you might a maraca).
Now that I’ve explained how the ElectraStim Stimulator works I hope it sounds easier and less intimidating and, I can assure you, this is even more so the case during use.
This pack provides you with four ElectraPads, though you’ll only use two at a time. This is mostly out of practicality (from what I can tell) as the pads will lose their adhesiveness over time. That being said I’ve used mine a fair few times and so far they’ve kept their adhesiveness. In order to use the ElectraPads you simply plug them in to the pin connectors and apply them to your body. ElectraStim items should always be used below the waist and both need to be applied to connect the circuit.
I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t very nervous when first using these pads, however the sensations provided were tame and enjoyable—think the tickle of pins and needles but without the agony and repercussions of dead leg. This shouldn’t have come at a big surprise—after all ElectraStim has done everything they can to make their devices safe and enjoyable in a sexual way—and it wasn’t long before I was addicted to the jolts of tingling sensation dancing delightfully under my skin.
Of course these sensations do get more extreme as you amp up the power (and I can’t get to the highest level without being outside of my comfort zone) but with the Flick EM60 Stimulator you can go as far as you want, and slowly increasing the intensity makes the whole process more comfortable and sensual.
But that’s not all. You can actually share sensations with your partner when using uni-polar products. All you have to do is hook both uni-polar electrodes up to the same connecting wire, make sure your bodies are touching, and then turn the Stimulator on for shared enjoyment. For me this experience wasn’t overwhelming but it did add another element of enjoyment to our play session. While the PIV sex still took centre stage I found I would occasionally be greeted with the sensations of the ElectraPad I was wearing and it would make me swell with additional enjoyment.
For me electro sex is definitely addictive, and I’d recommend that anyone try it (even if it means facing some fears), however, there are still some downsides to using this pack.
The biggest downside for my partner and I is that the ElectraPads don’t work well on areas with hair (and pull on the hair when being removed if you do use them in such areas). As both my partner and I rock the natural look this meant that I was hesitant to apply a pad to my vulva and, thus, lost out on what is recommended as one of the best uses.
When both ElectraPads are applied it also became apparent that one pad was slightly stronger than the other. This isn’t a huge issue but it can cause some discomfort when going up to the next level.
Another very minor complaint of mine is that this pack doesn’t come with an internal toy, as I feel that the sensations of ElectraStim are at their peak when used internally, but this is more personal preference than a fault of this pack personally. Besides, there are a wide array of accessories that you can branch out into with ElectraStim.
Overall I adore my ElectraStim Flick EM60-E Electro Stimulation Pack and I’m kicking myself for not getting into electro sex sooner. The sensations provided with ElectraStim are so distinct and I can’t wait until I get my next ElectraStim product (I’m thinking a pinwheel or the Nona).
If you really hate the sensation of pins and needles, or simply have a well-warranted aversion to electrocution then it might be worth avoiding this toy. But, honestly, I’d still say give it a try if you have the chance to demo it. You never know, it might shock you with its results.
