A Love Letter to Lube: Sliquid H2O

Well here we are. We’re finally at the last post in the A Love Letter to Lube Valentine’s special, looking at our final lube of the month and I have a confession to make.

Throughout this review series I have deliberately avoided using the term ‘slick’ in regards to any other lubricant and this lube is the reason why. Sliquid lubricants are the reigning champions of this term.

They’re S-L-Ick and no other lubricant comes close to the truly slick sensation that Sliquid H2O supplies. That’s not to say that Sliquid is the best brand of lubricant, or that other lubes don’t feel as good, but Sliquid does have a truly unique sensation and Sliquid H2O is my personal go-to in terms of water-based lube.

Here’s why.

Sliquid H2O is a fantastically slippery lube.

Sliquid H2O is Sliquid’s original formula and is used as the base formula for all of the other water-based lubricants in Sliquid’s Naturals line. The base formula is made with purified water, it’s Glycerin and Paraben-free, it’s hypoallergenic, non-toxic and non-staining. To top this all off Sliquid H2O aims to emulate the body’s natural lubrication and is 100% Vegan.

Sliquid H2O is scentless as doesn’t come with any strong flavour (though you can taste the gentle flavour of the plant cellulose). Because of this Sliquid H2O could be used for oral sex but, if you’re going for an oral lube, I’d recommend Sliquid’s flavoured line of lubricants instead.

The consistency of this lubricant is where Sliquid H2O really shines. Out of the bottle Sliquid H2O has a semi-thick gel-like consistency (though it does still drip and slide). When spread on the skin this gel-like feel turns into a slick protective layer of hydrating lube which creates a great buffer for sex toys, and provides a natural, sensual layer of lube for foreplay and vaginal penetration.

I’m going to try to avoid saying slick too much but that really is the best word to describe how this lubricant feels. Sliquid H2O has such a glossy smooth consistency to it that it makes penetration smooth and comfortable in the best of ways.

As Sliquid H2O is a water-based lube clean-up is easy after use. Sliquid H2O can dry up naturally or can be easily wiped away.

As someone with incredibly sensitive skin (so sensitive that I had an extremely rare reaction to another fantastic water-based lube) I was delighted to find that Sliquid H2O had no adverse effect on my body. It seems this has also been the case for other sensitive adult product reviewers so, if you have sensitive skin, Sliquid H2O might be the lube for you.

However, as much as I’d love to keep on praising Sliquid H2O up, it does have some downsides.

Because Sliquid H2O is only a semi gel-like lubricant it’s not best suited for anal penetration, and you’d be better off finding a thicker lube (or a silicone-based lube) for this task.

Sliquid’s water-based formula also dries up after a while so you may need to reapply it for long toy sessions. I have found that, when I introduce a new toy into play, I have to make sure I lube it up (or there won’t be enough Sliquid H2O left on my vulva for the both of us), however this wasn’t a big issue for me.

The biggest issue me and (mostly) my partner has with Sliquid H2O is that it can actually be a bit too slick. The first few times we used Sliquid H2O my partner noticed a distinct decrease in sensation for him.

Put simply, Sliquid H2O was so good at making sex effortless that it was also making it sensationless for him.

This was the case whether we used a large or small amount of lubricant and it took us a few more uses of Sliquid H2O before my partner was able to adjust and claim back some sensation. Subsequently, if you and your partner have been using sensation-enhancing lubricants in the past then Sliquid H2O might seem a bit too slippery and buffering at first.

We did find that, after a few more uses, sensation returned for him. But if you don’t want to invest in this lube only to find that it detracts from your pleasure then this is something to keep in mind.

Overall I love Sliquid H2O and can’t get enough of it. This lubricant is body-safe, vegan friendly, and has the monopoly on slick. If the sound of this appeals to you then don’t hesitate to get yourself a bottle and look forward to a water-based lube in its own league.

I couldn’t think of any better lubricant to finish this Valentine’s special off with.

Recommend to:

People who want a slippery water-based lube.

People who value lubricant ingredients.

Do Not Recommend to:

People who prefer thin lubes.

People who want an anal lube.

People who worry about loss of sensation.

  • I adore Sliquid Sassy, so I’ve never tried H2O. I think Sassy has the same formula plus a thickening agent, but I’d like to try some all the same.

I just bought a new sex toy, the Tenga Flip Zero. And it says that I should only use water based lubes. Would you recommend using this lube for male masturbators?
